My Favorite Low Carb Skinny Margarita Recipe

Who loves tequila!? Or better question is who doesn’t love tequila?

I’ll admit, I don’t actually drink a lot of mixed drinks.  Beer & wine have always been my tried and trues. Probably because I can always be pretty sure of how much carbs and alcohol I’m consuming.

When I started eating low carb, I stopped drinking beer for many months and only drank pinot noir that runs about 2 to 3 carbs per 4 ounces. While I love wine, occasionally I wanted something refreshing, especially during the warm months. I also want something I could order at a bar and ask to have it made the way I like. That’s how I discovered this low carb margarita recipe.

Originally I was just ordering a skinny margarita, but after watching bartenders make them with mixers I knew had carbs, I started with experimenting. I was surprised to realize that a simple recipe with mostly just lime & tequila was perfect for me because it wasn’t so sweet. However in this recipe, I provide a couple ways for you to add some sweetness or flavor while still keeping it under 4 carbs per serving. Enjoy!

Low Carb Skinny Margarita

Here are two ways to make your low carb skinny margarita. For more tart & less carbs, you can leave out the "optional" ingredients.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 oz Tequila
  • 3 oz Club Soda
  • 1 medium Lime -muddled
  • 3 grams Triple Sec (optional - "splash")
  • 1 squirt/drop i.e. Stevia, Sucralose (optional)

Notes

Cut lime in to wedges and muddle in a glass. Top with tequila & club soda. If you want to add sweetness you can include your choice of low or no carb sweetner such as stevia or sucralose to taste (see package for carb content). If you are not watching your carbs too closely, you can add a splash of Triple Sec (will increase recipe by 10 calories and 1 1/2 more carbs)
